what is Ice Cream?
Ice cream and similiar frozen desserts originate back several thousand years as far as a few century's B.C., although no specific creditable date is determined. The Greek's topped snow cones with honey and fruit during the Roman Empire, the Emperor Nero sent runners into the mountains, to top with fruits and juices. The Persians added wine to their snow cones and Alexander the Great desserts were served with honey. The Arabians were the first to add sugar to their mix and the Chinise used syrups to sweeten; also known to have added milk.
The world wide treat soon arrived to the America, although as the soft smooth confection that we know comes from a combination of French & Italian versions from the 16th Century. Our forefathers: Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington are regonized as the originating ice cream aficionados known to have spent several hundred dollars to have these dishes at their tables. In 1821, Dolley Madison presented a strawberry ice cream blend at President Madison's second inaugural banquet at the White House. With the rise of our new Nation Ice Cream was thus intergrated into American Culture at the summit of our dessert cuisine.
